The whole thing about ‘none’ is that it all happened
by accident. It first started as just the acoustic
guitar loop with a chorus, the one that you can hear
throughout the track, which was a leftover from a track
that had long been abandoned. I kept that draft for a
while and went on with my life. Then I went on a couple
of dates with this girl who, in a weird way, gave me
the vibe of the perfect ex-girlfriend anyone could ever
have (to this day I still haven’t figured it out yet).
So I kindly wrote the lyrics about the whole post break
up analysis that we tend to do.
While recording the second part of the song (which took
quite a while), I was layering these soft sounds that I
get when drumming on my walls. One time, a friend of
mine was staying in my place for a couple of days and,
I can’t remember the context but I recorded by accident
her saying “se alguém me ama aí em cima no céu, hoje eu
vou”, which immediately became the song’s main motif.
After putting all the pieces together, I invited one of
the most amazing guitarists that I’ve seen play in
Lisbon to record some guitars with me. We spent a
couple of weeks just adding more and more guitar layers
to the song, recording long takes and then just
chopping them as we saw fit. For me, it has the best
sound of the entire record. I also recorded some basses
with one of my friends, Jonas, back when I was in
Brazil for the first time after moving to Portugal. I
tried to blend his baselines with mine, trying to
capture a unique feeling to it.
